NAC-AEP Programme (Theatre)

Scripted Mime

The Garden Gnomes

Creative movement is an integral part of any drama programme. Movement and Mime reinforce non-verbal communication skills. In the opening scene of the story, we see ornamental gnomes in various poses in a garden. The owner of the garden moves around and complains about how overgrown it has become. Every time the owner turns his back, the gnomes stretch their limbs and freeze quickly before the owner notices. The owner, too discouraged to start working, goes inside the house for a nap. The garden gnomes come to life, clean up the garden, then resume their statue-like positions. The owner was surprised to see the transformed garden when he returned. The gnomes congratulate each other behind the owner’s back, freezing each time before they are seen.

Perfomances

Classic Fairytales Reinvented

Children will experience the process of creating their own play. Using basic acting and improvisation skills, “Classic Fairytales Reinvented” blends the world of STEM and the world of fairytales. It bridges the divide between science and the arts. The students explore issues in classic fairy tales and develop original solutions to present them in a mini-performance. These fairytales utilize structured improvisations as a means to teach students production skills and movement awareness, two critical elements of a successful performance. Ad-libs and character development are encouraged. Students will get the opportunity to write their own script for a fairytale of their choice.

Jason and The Golden Fleece

Drama Classes for Kids Singapore

Based on the ancient Greek mythology story of ‘Jason and the Golden Fleece’, this play is “a play within a play” and works best with large class numbers. Students enjoy taking part in this production and it caters well to both students new to acting and more advanced groups. This play affords students the opportunity to learn some basic facts about Greek theatre and the function of the Chorus. The programme covers scene and character development, stage blocking, set up, and costume making. It also gives them many opportunities to explore and develop theatre comedy techniques.
