The Helen O’Grady Drama System and Life Skills Development
At Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, we welcome all students and empower each child to develop at their own pace. There are no auditions.
Our programmes use drama as a tool to support children in developing:
Positivity. Trainers use positive reinforcement to encourage participation and facilitate learning. Our students’ efforts and ideas never go unnoticed.
Confidence. Confidence is built over time with every experience of success. As our students take on challenges and practise different skills, our trainers actively provide the necessary support.
Self-esteem. We recognise that every child is unique and seek to develop them individually. Our classes offer a safe and welcoming space that encourages children to freely express themselves.
Communication. Communication involves non-verbal and verbal expressions, and listening skills. We equip our students with a variety of ways to communicate their thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
Social interaction. The numerous drama activities encourage children to take turns, work alongside or together with their peers.
Creativity. Children explore a diverse range of scenarios, and learn to develop or even create stories using their imagination. In our classes, even the wildest ideas are acknowledged.
Above all, our classes are fun! While our curriculum follows a carefully designed structure, each lesson is different. A child can attend the Academy from age 2 to 18 without ever repeating a lesson.
At the end of each year, all our students perform a scripted production for friends and family. This is a special time for students to apply the skills they’ve acquired over the year and celebrate their development. It is also an achievement that they can feel proud of!
