Impact of COVID-19
There’s been much talk about resilience these days. Resilience helps you adapt when things change and aids in your speed of recovery. COVID-19 taught us that we need to do something to boost our resilience and that of our children so we can continue with a ‘normal’ life to the best of our ability. This pandemic may not be the last virus to cripple our planet. We must be ready for whatever else the world has in store for us.
Human beings as social creatures have been very negatively affected by social distancing. Not being able to be close to a loved one is a difficult task. Simple pleasures have been stolen from us. A study done in 2020 showed that adults around the world were increased levels of stress, anxiety, or sadness due to the pandemic. However, there is always hope.
What Drama Can Do
“If Peter Pan can beat Captain Hook. I can also thrive in the face of danger!”
Transforming into a character and speaking through them, a child can act out their frustrations, vent, and go away “dropping their baggage” at the classroom door, feeling just that little bit taller, lighter, and happier. Pent-up anger and emotions suddenly give life to play scripts and children find that they can continue with a normal life outside the academy doors through the minds of their new roles. We’ll sprinkle a little bit of pixie dust on them, help them think of happy thoughts, and watch them fly back out into the real world.
For more information about how drama can help you and your child through these difficult times, stay tuned for our next edition of our four-part “Behind the Mask” series.
In the mean time, our Term 2 classes resume this Saturday, 27 March at Goodman Arts Centre. Check out the class schedule or register for a trial class here.
